Shakhtar Donestsk CEO Sergei Palkin has told Sky Sports News’ Bryan Swanson that the Ukrainian side have rejected a bid from Chelsea for midfielder Willian.

Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas revealed that the Brazilian was an, “interesting player”, but played down a move for the player as he didn’t want to sign players who were cup-tied in other competitions – the Champions League. Palkin revealed that Chelsea’s bid of twenty million euros was quicky rejected as the player is: “not for sale.”

However, it is believed the player has a minimum release clause of thirty-five million euros so it is still possible that the player could make a move to the Bridge in this window. The club are reluctant to lose the player as Palkin told the Daily Mail. “We have no burning desire to sell the player, but in football some things are impossible to avoid.” “If it weren’t for our good relationship with Chelsea – and Willian does not hide his intention to test himself in one of the best clubs in the English Premier League – we would insist on the £29m release clause written into the player’s contract.” “It is important to understand that we are talking about Chelsea’s desire to buy Willian, but not Shakhtar’s desire to sell him.”

Palkin told Bryan Swanson today that a bid had been recieved but it was not enough to even tempt the club into selling, “We have received a bid from Chelsea for Willian valued at €20million, but he is not for sale”, confirmed Palkin.

A Terrikon.com correspondent also interviewed Palkin. “When Willian was 19 years old we paid for him almost the same amount of money,” told the Shakhtar CEO. He added:  “It is important to understand that today we are talking about Chelsea’s desire to buy Willian, but not Shakhtar’s desire to sell him. We also need this player. “
